For those who want to know more – more about Lektura

About us – our history

Lektura.ch offers modern educational tools for German, French and Ukrainian, specially designed for Ukrainian speakers, and soon to learn the Ukrainian language itself. Our offer combines reference books and digital web applications, always focused on vocabulary, structure and everyday life.

It all started in 2010 with the idea of turning Paul Clémens' approach (“Les mots russes par la racine”, Editions L'Harmattan) into a mobile application. Technical obstacles initially slowed down the project, and for years we focused exclusively on content: vocabulary, grammar and texts.

In 2019 was launched lecturus.ch, an independent platform for Russian language learning apps, in collaboration with Interactis. After two years of development, all the material was ready in early 2022, shortly after the pandemic. But everything changed with the start of the war in Ukraine: we immediately switched to producing educational material for Ukrainian refugees in Switzerland. Initially in Russian, then from the end of 2023, exclusively in Ukrainian.

The complete programme of publications is as follows:

- Basic German vocabulary by root (available)

- Basic French vocabulary by root (available)

- Basic Ukrainian vocabulary by root (publication planned for October 2025)

- The floating Ukrainian grammar (publication planned by November 2026)

The books are available in print and as a web app, each in three formats (root, frequency, theme).

Our teaching materials have been viewed and approved by the University of Bern, registered at the Buchzentrum in Hägendorf (a Swiss specialist in book distribution to bookshops) and printed/distributed on paper by our partner edubook.ch. After a quick start, our communication now reflects our content: independent, clear and focused on quality.

What makes us so special?

We combine linguistic methodology with modern technology, focus on quality rather than quantity, and remain deliberately independent of large publishers and global platforms. Our goal is not only to teach individual words, but also to help learners assimilate the spirit of the target language as it is experienced in multilingual Switzerland.

Lektura stands for sustainable, in-depth, targeted and independent language learning. Our books are designed as reference works for all levels of learning and offer purely didactic content: no frills, no special effects, just what is necessary to assimilate and actively use a language. When you buy from Lektura, you are deliberately choosing a simple and solid model in the tradition of the classic bookshop.

What sets us apart is our use of in-depth linguistic knowledge and modern technology. To help learners acquire a feel for the language, Lektura combines the advantages of two approaches in a single publication:

- modern language through frequency (synchrony),

- language history through roots/etymology (diachrony).

The similarities and differences between the target language and the user's language are thus clearly highlighted.

We deliberately focus on a small, targeted range of products in German, French and Ukrainian. Each book is developed in close collaboration with linguists: edited, checked and corrected by humans, not machines.

Lektura's roots in Switzerland, a multilingual country, inspire us in our daily work and give us daily experience of linguistic diversity and cultural exchange.

We are convinced that learning a language is much more than just processing data: it is the art of communicating from one person to another.
